IN LOVING MEMORY OF RUTH McCORT

Our dear and very beloved Ruth M. McCort (78), a member of the Akron Post-Polio Support Group from the very beginning in 1990, as well as well as being an extremely active member of The Ohio Polio Network, passed away on November 9, 2021.  She was born on October 17, 1943, to the late Clement L. and Frances C. (Schneider) McCort.  Ruth was also preceded in death by her brothers, James E., Raymond A., and Thomas L. McCort.  Ruth is survived by her brother, Paul D. (Judith) McCort and many nieces, nephews, and great friends.

Ruth was a graduate of Coventry High School, attended Hammel Business College, and also two years at Kent State University Stark Campus.  She became a bookkeeper at Famous Supply Company of Akron, where she spent 40 years.  Ruth was a member of Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church in Akron.

Visitation was held on November 17th, and a Mass of Christian Burial followed.  Burial of cremains followed at Holy Cross Cemetery and a luncheon was then held at church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nativity of the Lord Jesus Catholic Church, 2425 Myersville Rd., Akron, OH 44312.

There are no words to express the sadness of so many people whose lives Ruth touched.  She had a unbelievable strength in her soul to battle her polio, a leg amputation and various other illnesses she faced over the years.  Also, she always brushed off anyone wanting to feel sorry for her and took every day one at a time with faith being her rock and seeing her through the ups and downs of her life.

As far as all she gave to both organizations – The Akron Post-Polio Group and The Ohio Polio Network – she held various and numerous positions in both groups and will always be remembered as a strong worker and wanting to help prosper the groups in any way possible.  Although Ruth couldn’t be as active as in days in the past, she kept in touch as these groups that meant the world to her and attended a meeting whenever possible, though special transportation was usually most difficult for her.

Now that Ruth is not with us, there is definitely going to be a huge gape in both of these organizations because of the “footprint” Ruth left on our hearts.  Our prayer is being thankful that she now rests in peace and also prayers for the family.  God bless you Ruth for all you gave of yourself to us…Brenda Ferguson, Newsletter Editor
