Carolyn Marie Nickelson,82 of Gay, WV went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Mountain View Care Center in Ripley, WV.
 

She was born in Charleston, WV to the late Joseph (Wess) Randolph and Bessie M. Randolph. She was also preceded in death by her soulmate and husband Guy W. “Bill” Nickelson; daughter Sara Jane Burgess; brothers James, Chuck, and Lovell “Peanut” Randolph; and great-grandson Trent Ball.

 

She is survived by her large family including daughter Lora Ann Coleman (Matthew); son

Billy (Ketha) Nickelson of Gay, WV; son-in-law Ray Burgess of Albany, OH; sister Betty L. Bryant (Pete); brother Jesse (Shaunie) Randolph both of Cross Lanes, WV. Grandchildren Jessica (David) Ball, Shawndra (Kyle) Thompson, Morgan and Logan Coleman, Ryan Nickelson, Chelsi Burgess, Jeremy Burgess, and Brooke Givens. Great-grandchildren Taylor, Hayden and Liam Ball, Aubree Matheny, Paisley Thompson, Ethan and Freya Baker, JJ Burgess, Elijah and Malachi White, Grayson Smith, Brittany and Reese Phillips; along with several nieces and nephews and special friend Carol Russell.

 

Carolyn was a lifelong Community Education Officer, 4-H Leader (Jackson County 4-H), and a part of the Homemaker’s Club of Gay. She worked at Camp Virgil Tate and supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all their sports and activities.

 

Following a private viewing there will be a Graveside service Sunday, August 10th at 3p.m. on the family farm on Brush Run Road in Gay, WV. The family would like to invite you to a Celebration of Life at the Gay Community Building following the Graveside service.

In addition to flowers, donations towards Carolyn’s final expenses are greatly appreciated.
