Carol Thomas

Carol R. Thomas, 68, Defiance, died Friday, August 20, 2010, at The Toledo Hospital, Toledo, Ohio.

She was born December 26, 1941, in Jewell, the daughter of Perry M. and Marjorie K. (Minsel) Lehman. On May 2, 1964, she married John T. Thomas, who died on May 17, 1988. She was a homemaker and president of the Defiance Area Post Polio Support Group.

Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth (Donald) DuBois, Jr. of Holland, Ohio; two brothers, Darcy Lehman of Defiance and James "Jim" (Betty) Lehman of Defiance; a sister, Margaret C. (Wilbur) Gick of Defiance; and her pet dog, Candi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Thomas; and her parents.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hanenkrath-Clevenger Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with Rev. Timothy Reynolds officiating. Burial will be at Independence Cemetery, Defiance County, Ohio. Visitation is Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Carol was very instrumental in the organization and leadership of our local chapter.  She was an advocate and source of information for all polio survivors.   She was also the last chair of our local group, that has, unfortunately, faded away due to membership issues.
